Africa Melane

I was born in Gugulethu and have lived in the Mother City all of my life. Went to UCT, where I studied accounting - then worked with a leading business assurance and advisory company. I ended up teaching some of the first-year MBChB class for a number of years in professional and personal development, and am now a presenter on CapeTalk and 702. What is next I wonder?

PROFILE
What did you want to be when you were little?
A Sub A (Grade One) teacher. Both my parents were teachers, as well as my maternal grandfather and my paternal grandmother. So teaching is in my blood.
What soothes you?
This has changed over the years. I really enjoy driving and finding new and quirky experiences. I love eating good food and I am on a mission to find the best crème brule in Cape Town.
What irks you?
Disrespect, disrespect and more disrespect. And someone who is more stubborn than me.
Is there a book you read that changed your life?
Harper Lee’s ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’. I studied the book in Standard 8 (that would be Grade 10 nowadays).
The music you listen to most often?
Jazz and South African standards.
Who would you go to the ends of the earth for?
My brothers.
Who is your greatest source of inspiration?
My Mother and my Grandmother. Those years of teaching me to do the right thing always informs every decision I have made.
Do you have any 'show off' coffee table books in your home?
I have a heap of magazines and a book that I am currently reading on my coffee table. There could be a DVD or two that I have to return to the DVD shop.

Ever been left speechless on the air?

Yes… let us just say that it had to do with dogs and New Year’s Eve celebrations
Who is the one person you would love to interview, but haven't yet had the pleasure?
The Stig
SHOW DESCRIPTION
Afternoons with Africa is an opportunity to catch up on what’s been happening in the City for both lifestyle and news subjects.
See what has developed from the talk on the Breakfast Show and listen out for your favourite regular feature whether that’s talk about money or tips about DIY. The show is conversational and invites callers to share experiences rather that just opinion.
Everyone is invited whether they are on the way to a meeting, tuning in at the office, fetching the kids or enjoying it from home.
There will be plenty of information you may want to use again later so you would be able to find links to stories on Twitter and audio from interviews right here.
Africa will make you feel right at home with his warm and friendly style so you can look forward to both pearls of wisdom and peals of laughter.
